From all of us at The Tea House on Los Rios
Looking for the perfect summer sip? Let us introduce you to one of our favorites—oolong tea. It’s the smooth, flavorful middle ground between black tea and green tea. Not too bold, not too grassy—just the right balance of floral, fruity, and sometimes creamy notes.
Here at The Tea House on Los Rios, two oolongs are stealing the show this season: our juicyWatermelon Oolong and the rich, toastyFormosa Oolong. Whether you’re sipping on the patio or hosting a garden picnic, these blends bring summer vibes in every cup.
So, What Is Oolong Tea?
Oolong tea is a traditional Chinese tea that’spartially oxidized, which puts it right between green and black tea in both flavor and caffeine. Some oolongs are light and floral, while others are warm and toasty. It all depends on how the leaves are grown and processed.

How to Brew Oolong Tea (Like We Do!)
Brewing oolong at home is easy—we promise. Here’s how to get the most flavor from your leaves, whether you want it hot or iced.
For Hot Tea:
-
Start withfresh, filtered water. Heat it to190–200°F (just before boiling).
-
Use1 teaspoonof loose leaf tea per8 oz cup.
-
Pour the water over the leaves andsteep for 3–5 minutes.
(We recommend starting at 3 minutes—if you want it stronger, steep a little longer!) -
Strain the leaves, sip, and enjoy.
Bonus Tip: Oolong leaves can be re-steeped 2–3 times. Just add a little more time with each brew to unlock new layers of flavor.
For Iced Tea:
There are two easy ways to make it—pick your favorite!
1. Brew-Over-Ice Method (Quick & Refreshing)
-
Use 2 teaspoons of tea per 8 oz water for a stronger brew.
-
Steep in hot water (190–200°F) for4–5 minutes.
-
Let it cool slightly, then pour over a glass filled with ice.
What to Pair With Oolong Tea
Oolong is super versatile when it comes to food. Here’s what we love:
